Clearolux
Clearolux is a lens-based vision correction procedure that replaces the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL) selected to address your individual vision needs.
Unlike LASIK or PRK, which reshape the cornea, Clearolux corrects vision by replacing the eye’s natural lens. It may be considered for patients experiencing age-related changes in vision or for those whose needs may be better addressed with a lens-based procedure.
Determining whether Clearolux or another vision correction option is appropriate requires a comprehensive eye evaluation.
What Is Clearolux?
During the procedure, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens selected based on detailed eye measurements, vision needs, and lifestyle goals.
Clearolux may address:
- Nearsightedness (myopia)
- Farsightedness (hyperopia)
- Astigmatism
- Age-related loss of near vision (presbyopia)
Because the natural lens is replaced, cataracts cannot later develop in that lens.
Is Clearolux Right for You?
Clearolux may be considered for some patients seeking greater independence from glasses or contact lenses, particularly when age-related changes in the eye’s natural lens are affecting near vision.
The appropriate procedure cannot be determined by age or prescription alone. A comprehensive evaluation is needed to assess your eye health, prescription, cornea, natural lens, visual needs, and lifestyle before discussing which vision correction options may be appropriate.
Advanced Lens Technology
Clearolux uses advanced intraocular lens technology that can be selected to address different vision needs. Lens options may include:
- Monofocal lenses – Designed to provide clear distance vision
- Toric lenses – Designed to correct astigmatism
- Multifocal or extended-depth-of-focus lenses – Designed to improve both distance and near vision
Following your comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Ceravolo will determine which vision correction approach is appropriate for your eyes and vision needs.
If Clearolux is recommended, your surgical coordinator will guide you through the available lens options and explain the potential advantages and limitations of each. Your coordinator will also review what to expect before and after surgery, including preparation, recovery, and at-home postoperative care.

Clearolux
vs.
LASIK
Clearolux
- Replaces the eye’s natural lens
- Corrects both near and distance vision
- Prevents cataracts from forming
Lasik
- Reshapes the cornea
- Does not prevent cataracts
- May not fully address presbyopia
Following your comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Ceravolo will determine which vision correction approach is appropriate for your eyes and vision needs.
Which Vision Correction Option Is Right for You?
LASIK, PRK, and Clearolux correct vision in different ways. The appropriate option depends on factors such as your prescription, eye health, corneal characteristics, natural lens, focusing needs, lifestyle, and long-term vision goals.
You do not need to know which procedure you need before your appointment. Your comprehensive vision correction evaluation is designed to help determine which options may be appropriate for you.
