ACTIVE LIFE LENSES
For eyes over 40
An unfortunate side effect of reaching 40 is that near vision begins to deteriorate. If you’ve recently found it necessary to use reading glasses, bifocals or progressive lenses, then you, along with millions of other Americans, are likely suffering from presbyopia.
Presbyopia is the medical term for an aging eye that has become less flexible in both the lens and muscles. This condition is likely to affect everyone at some point.
North Columbus Eye Center offers a better solution, our Active Life Lens® Procedures. Active Life Lenses® like the Crystalens HD™, Tecnis® Multifocal lens, and AcrySof® ReSTOR® were originally developed for cataract patients, but are also a great option for giving presbyopia sufferers the freedom to, in many cases, completely eliminate your dependence on readers or bifocals.
Have you been told you are not a candidate for LASIK due to severe nearsightedness? If so, the Visian ICL may be right for you. The Visian ICL is ideal for individuals with moderate to severe nearsightedness who are not candidates for Z-LASIK due to the severity of their nearsightedness or the thinness of their corneas.
Unlike the Tecnis or ReSTOR procedures, the Visian ICL is not lens replacement—your natural lens remains in place. The Visian ICL is not recommended for cataract patients.
Cataract patients in Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama have a reason to rejoice thanks to a new “dropless” cataract surgery method available at North Columbus Eye. It is designed to eliminate one of the most frustrating aspects of cataract surgery: postoperative eye drops.
In standard cataract surgery, patients are required to use antibiotic and steroid eye drops before and after their procedures. These drops prevent infection and promote healing after surgery. The rigid drop schedules can be difficult to follow, and missing scheduled drops can increase risk of complications.
For patients who qualify for dropless cataract surgery, your surgeon will place the drops (a medicine called Tri-Moxi) within the eye during the procedure. The drops will dissolve slowly over time. Tri-Moxi® is a combination of antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory.
Dropless cataract surgery allows most patients to heal without the need for additional prescription eye drops. It also simplifies your daily life after surgery.
